All I wanted to say was:
Don't forget to be happy
It's as simple as that. And I wonder, did I forget sometimes? Are you forgetting?
I was about 40 minutes early for assembly today. The lower secondary girls were having their assembly. So I made my way to the gallery looking over the hall, searching for the cool relief of the air conditioner. I found what I was looking for. And I found more. So perhaps I was fortunate.
I stood mesmerised, my chinese worksheets forgotten as I watched. They were blowing up balloons and writing messages on them for their friends. Smiles stretched across their faces as they did so. Their laughter echoed around the room. They echoed to me.
They were so happy.
A year 2 girl who was running up to the gallery to give balloons to her friends in the AV room, stopped, stared at me, then offered me a balloon.
'Dear year 1s and 2s,
It's really heartening to see you all so happy.
Don't ever forget to be happy in your journey,
here or in the future.
a random year 4'
I wrote, and tossed the balloon down to the laughing and screaming girls.
